Springfield Federal Courthouse
Stull and Lee, Inc.
Springfield Federal Courthouse is a three stage GSA Design Excellence
competition. Stage 1 is a firm portfolio, Stage 2 is a team booklet, and
Stage 3 is the final design competition between 3 firms. The concept of
the design is to create a large civic icon that occurs where a main street
in Springfield starts to turn, creating a visual closing to the site.
The intent of the design is to create a grand central space open to the
sky with courtrooms surrounding the space. The form is created by use
of rigid geometeries of a circle, square, and triangle which respond to
basic human visual understanding.
This project was designed with sketches and 3d modeling in Form
Z.
